A massive wildfire has scorched approximately 750 hectares of forest close to the Costa Brava, leading to the mandatory sheltering of up to 12,000 individuals. Driven by the strong tramontana wind, the fire continues to rage in Girona, located in northeast Spain, casting a large smoke cloud over the popular tourist area. Residents in the Empordà region have been issued precautionary confinement directives affecting an estimated 12,000 people. Additionally, around 40,000 individuals have received alerts through Es-Alert, Spain’s national emergency warning system, on their mobile devices, instructing them on safety measures to follow.
