The United States has proposed a $100 billion offer to Iran in exchange for discontinuing the practice of imposing tolls on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

In an attempt to ease Iran’s stance, the US and Oman are discussing potential solutions, leveraging the release of a portion of the $100 billion held in Iranian accounts abroad. Despite the offer, Tehran has rejected the proposal, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Iran’s negotiator and deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, asserted yesterday that Iran maintains control over the strait, not the US. Tehran also issued a warning that any vessel deviating from Iran-approved routes would face immediate and forceful consequences.
