Dog owners are advised to contact their veterinarian if they have given their dogs a widely used brand of dog food following an urgent recall notification for the product.

Mars Petcare has issued a recall for two batches of its PEDIGREE® Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck flavored dog food due to not meeting its strict safety and quality standards. The company, which owns Pedigree, discovered that these batches may contain metal, plastic, and other foreign materials.

A spokesperson from Mars stated that despite the products being sent for destruction as part of their quality control process, they were fraudulently diverted and sold in the U.S. with potential hazards to dogs due to the presence of sharp foreign objects.

Concerned consumers who fed the recalled dog food to their pets are advised to seek advice from their vet. Mars Petcare US is collaborating with authorities to investigate how the unfit canned goods entered the market.

The spokesperson emphasized their commitment to pet safety and assisting consumers in identifying and removing the affected products. As of now, there have been no reports of pet illness or injury related to the recalled dog food.

The recall specifically targets two lot codes of the product sold in the U.S., and consumers are urged not to feed it to their pets. They can contact PEDIGREE for a replacement product. No other products from PEDIGREE or Mars Petcare US, Inc. are subject to the recall issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
