A tragic incident unfolded as a hiker lost her life in a horrifying alligator attack while cooling off in a river with her boyfriend in Orlando, Florida. The 31-year-old woman was enjoying a day out near the Econlockhatchee River on Sunday when the alligator unexpectedly attacked her, gripping both of her arms in its jaws.
Despite desperate efforts by her boyfriend to free her, the aggressive alligator managed to sever one of her arms and severely injure the other. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Lieutenant Grant Eller revealed that the attack occurred around 1:30 pm while the group was kneeling in the river.
During the distressing incident, the woman’s boyfriend called emergency services, captured in a harrowing recording obtained by NBC News. The woman, in shock, informed the dispatcher that both of her arms were severely injured, with one barely hanging on and the other completely gone.
Tragically, the woman succumbed to her injuries before reaching a hospital, as confirmed by authorities who are still in the process of notifying her family. Following the attack, Seminole County sheriff’s deputies, with the help of a professional trapper, removed two large alligators from the area for further investigation to determine the aggressor through DNA analysis.
This fatal attack is among several recent incidents in central Florida, attributed to alligators becoming more territorial after their mating season. It serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by wildlife encounters in natural habitats.
