Steve Jackson, a devoted England fan, endured a lengthy bus journey of over 17 hours from New York to Atlanta. Upon arriving in the scorching city, Steve, aged 62, expressed his exhaustion after being one of the first supporters to reach Atlanta. Reflecting on his arduous trip, he described it as a nightmare due to the lack of comfort, sleep, and amenities on the bus. Despite the challenges, Steve, hailing from Bournemouth, Dorset, mentioned the cost-saving advantage of bus travel compared to the expensive one-way flights from New York to Atlanta, which could reach up to £700.

Concerns over the high expenses of following England at the World Cup were echoed by fans, pointing out the exorbitant prices of tickets, accommodations, and transportation. Many fans noted the financial strain, highlighting that older and wealthier individuals seemed to dominate the attendance at the tournament. Gary Taylor, a successful estate agent and a beneficiary of discounted tickets through the Football Association, criticized the pricing structure, emphasizing the burden it places on average fans. He called for a reevaluation of ticket prices for future tournaments to make the events more accessible to all supporters.

Amidst the escalating costs, a couple of avid Spurs fans from Harold Wood, Essex, embarked on a lengthy journey across the United States and Mexico to support their team during the tournament. Alan Thomas from Reading, Berks, expressed frustration over the continuous rise in prices compared to previous World Cups, urging for reforms within FIFA to address the affordability issue for fans. The sentiment among supporters is that changes are necessary to ensure that future tournaments remain inclusive and accessible to all football enthusiasts.
