A man has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for his involvement in encouraging the rape of a baby and an eight-year-old child. Mark Craig, 56, exchanged explicit messages with an individual he thought had access to young girls, including a baby, detailing sexual abuse scenarios. Unbeknownst to Craig, the person he was communicating with was an undercover police officer conducting an investigation.
Following a police operation by officers from the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU), Craig was arrested in March. He faced charges for arranging/facilitating a child sex offense, producing indecent images of a child, and distributing indecent images of a child. Craig pleaded guilty to all charges during his appearance at Newcastle Crown Court.
Craig, residing in the Westerhope area of Newcastle, received his sentence at the same court. Detective Inspector Hull from NEROCU expressed relief at the outcome, emphasizing the danger Craig posed to children and commending the diligent work of law enforcement in apprehending such predators. The NEROCU remains committed to investigating online crimes against children under Operation Sentinel to ensure their protection.
