A prominent weather forecaster has predicted that the ongoing heatwave will intensify, leading to temperatures feeling as high as 50C in certain regions tomorrow. The UK saw its hottest June day ever recorded, reaching 36.1C in Gosport, Hampshire, breaking a 50-year-old weather record. A red health alert for extreme heat, posing a risk to life even for healthy individuals, is expected to persist into Thursday across much of southern England and Wales. Train services are cautioning passengers about potential disruptions following delays and cancellations due to the scorching weather.

The heatwave is attributed to a stationary high-pressure system that has caused temperatures to exceed 44C in France, now shifting towards the British Isles, particularly focusing on southwest England. According to British Weather Services’ senior meteorologist, Jim Dale, the situation may worsen on Thursday as hot air from France, Spain, and potentially North Africa gets pulled into the region, accentuating the heat. Humidity levels are crucial, as the combination of temperature and humidity could make it feel up to 10C hotter than the actual air temperature, leading to temperatures feeling like 50C. Dale described the weather as divisive, where individuals either enjoy it or suffer greatly.

For those seeking relief during this period of extreme heat, here are the forecaster’s recommendations.
