A tragic incident occurred at a clinic in a shopping center where a nursing assistant passed away while undergoing a procedure to remove toxic fillers from her buttocks. Paula Andrea Beltrán Sandoval, aged 41, experienced a cardiorespiratory arrest approximately 70 minutes into the operation. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, including electric shocks for over 40 minutes, Ms. Sandoval was declared deceased within the operating room.
Ms. Sandoval, who hailed from New York but originally from Colombia, traveled to Medellín to address health issues associated with her previous biopolymer injections. Biopolymer injections are prohibited for cosmetic purposes in Colombia and pose serious risks such as necrosis, migration, and sepsis, making them unsuitable for cosmetic enhancement in the UK as well.
Having no known pre-existing medical conditions, Ms. Sandoval underwent the procedure at a clinic within the El Tesoro shopping center in Medellín on June 18, at a cost of 38,000,000 Colombian Pesos, equivalent to roughly £8,335. Authorities have initiated an investigation into her death, scrutinizing the clinic’s documentation, licenses, and staff qualifications.
Forensic experts from the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of Ms. Sandoval’s passing. The case is currently under active investigation pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination.
