Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the tragic death of an elderly British man who was mugged outside his holiday residence in Tenerife. The 88-year-old victim, identified only as Ray, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital after the assault last Wednesday, leading to the prompt arrest of the suspects.

The exact location of the arrests and whether all three individuals will be charged with homicide remain uncertain. A spokesperson from Spain’s National Police confirmed the arrests, stating that the trio had been taken into custody following the incident involving the British man who later passed away in the hospital.

The victim, who had recently celebrated his birthday at a local pub in Tenerife during his holiday trip, reportedly suffered a fatal head injury during a brief altercation. He had been hospitalized in critical condition after the violent attack in Los Cristianos, located in the southern part of Tenerife, where he was accompanied by his 79-year-old wife.

In tribute to the deceased, floral arrangements have been left outside the apartment complex where the mugging occurred. Messages on the flowers expressed condolences, with one stating, “RIP Ray, We Will Miss You.” An acquaintance who had recently met the victim at a local pub reminisced about their encounter, highlighting the man’s amiable nature and expressing disbelief over the tragic incident.

The assault took place at the entrance of Victoria Court II, an apartment building in Los Cristianos, where the victim collapsed and went into cardiac arrest after a brief struggle. Emergency responders managed to revive him at the scene before rushing him to the hospital in critical condition.

Concerns have been raised by expatriates and frequent visitors to Tenerife regarding the escalating mugging incidents in the area, urging law enforcement to intensify efforts to address the issue. Reports from residents describe multiple incidents of theft and assault, calling for enhanced security measures in the affected locality to ensure public safety.
