The Met Office has issued amber weather alerts for extreme heat in 71 areas nationwide for Monday, warning of potential power cuts due to the scorching conditions. The forecasters cautioned that the high temperatures could lead to failures in “heat-sensitive systems and equipment,” impacting both homes and businesses.

The weather warnings will be in effect from 1am on Monday, June 22, until 11.59pm on Tuesday, June 23. The Met Office highlighted the expected hot spell on Monday and Tuesday, foreseeing significant impacts on people and infrastructure.

Weather experts have increased their temperature forecasts, anticipating highs of 35C on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a possibility of surpassing the UK’s June temperature record of 35.6C set in 1976. According to reports, temperatures in Writtle, Essex, already reached 31.2C on Friday.

In case of a power outage, the Met Office has provided guidance for various regions, including Derby, Derbyshire, Leicester, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Bedford, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Luton, Norfolk, Peterborough, Southend-on-Sea, Suffolk, Thurrock, among others.

Additionally, areas such as Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Greater London, Surrey, Berkshire, Sussex, and various other regions are advised to be prepared for potential power disruptions during the extreme heat. This warning extends to areas in Wales, including Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, and others. It is essential for residents in these areas to take necessary precautions during this period of heightened heat and potential power instabilities.
