A tragic incident unfolded in Lanzarote as a four-year-old British girl drowned in a hotel swimming pool at the Playa Blanca resort on Saturday, June 20, at approximately 1.30pm. Despite the swift arrival of ambulances, police, and an emergency services helicopter, efforts to save the girl’s life proved unsuccessful.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death, with the Civil Guard taking the lead. Reports indicate that no suspicious factors are currently suspected in connection with the incident.
The Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Centre received an alert on the tragic event, prompting immediate mobilization of emergency resources. Despite resuscitation attempts by a nurse and medical staff at the scene, the young girl sadly could not be revived and was pronounced deceased.
In a separate incident, a three-year-old British boy lost his life after falling into a swimming pool at a holiday home near Costa del Sol in southern Spain on Wednesday, June 17. The tragic event occurred in the village of Periana around 8.30am, despite a significant emergency response being dispatched to the location.
The boy’s family had just checked into their holiday rental the day before the incident. Periana Council expressed deep condolences, offering support and solidarity to the grieving family during this difficult period.
These heartbreaking incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of water safety, especially when children are near swimming pools.
