Shocking video footage captures the frightening moment gunshots were fired in New York City’s renowned Times Square shortly after the New York Knicks’ victory parade. The video, believed to be from a surveillance camera positioned above the square, shows tourists going about their day before five loud shots break the calm atmosphere. In response, the crowd scatters in panic, with people seen running towards buildings and around corners to escape the bustling open-air location. Amid the chaos, screams and cries can be heard as pedestrians, gripped by fear, rush into the road where traffic cautiously navigates through the fleeing crowds.

Some individuals appear bewildered, standing frozen in the middle of the road or the square, unsure of their next move. In a matter of moments, the once-packed tourist hub empties, leaving only a small group of people lingering at the edges of the central plaza, according to reports from the Express. The incident occurred at 3:37 pm on Thursday, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the New York Police Department speaking to the Daily Express US.

The police responded to reports of shots fired near 43rd St. and Seventh Avenue, where an individual was seen discharging a firearm into the crowd. The authorities swiftly arrested a man at the scene and recovered a firearm, although it was unclear if the weapon belonged to the suspect. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the NYPD has initiated an investigation into the incident. Additional footage filmed at ground level captures a witness describing the chaotic scenes in the popular tourist spot, recounting a brawl in the crowd moments before the gunshots rang out in front of him. Bystanders are seen fleeing the area in the video, narrowly missing collisions as they rush away from the unfolding turmoil. The witness informs viewers that they have just witnessed a shooting incident.
