A mother from the UK, Donna Jobling, faced a critical health battle after contracting Legionnaires’ disease during a holiday in Greece. Spending 16 days in a coma at a hospital in Crete, she now worries about her recovery prospects. Donna, 58, fell ill while on a £1,500-per-couple vacation with her husband Sid and friends on a beautiful Greek island.

Her condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to an induced coma lasting over two weeks at Venizeleio Hospital. Upon returning to the UK, she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disorder known to follow infections. This rare syndrome affects nerve function and breathing, causing significant challenges for Donna, who hails from Hull, Humberside.

The impact on Donna’s life has been profound, with her husband taking on the role of her primary caregiver. The holiday company expressed regret over her ongoing health struggles and pledged swift resolution. Donna’s determined spirit shines through as she battles daily to regain strength and independence, despite facing slow progress and uncertainties about her future well-being.

Legionnaires’ disease, contracted from contaminated water droplets, triggered a cascade of health issues for Donna, leading to her current state of being reliant on constant care and support. Legal action has been taken against the holiday operator, easyJet, seeking accountability for the illness contracted at Sergios Hotel in Hersonissos, Greece.

While easyJet has provided initial support, including funding for rehabilitation, the resolution of the case remains pending. Donna’s plea for acknowledgment of responsibility from the company underscores the need for accountability and prevention of similar incidents in the future. Her journey towards recovery remains arduous, with small victories like regaining strength in her arm offering glimmers of hope amidst the challenges.

As the legal process unfolds, both parties aim for a swift resolution, acknowledging the ongoing impact on Donna’s life. Immediate medical attention is crucial for Legionnaires’ disease symptoms, with the NHS advising prompt consultation for any concerning signs post-exposure to the bacteria.
