Hawaiian Airlines Introduces New In-Flight Meal Policy

Starting July, passengers on Hawaiian Airlines flights will now have to pay for meals that were previously complimentary. The airline has announced that complimentary meals will no longer be provided automatically.

Passengers flying between Hawaii and the US mainland will need to purchase pre-ordered meals from a new menu between two weeks before departure and 20 hours prior to takeoff. Meal prices are expected to range from approximately $10 to $17 per meal.

However, flights between Honolulu and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport will still include a complimentary meal for Main Cabin passengers.

The airline has collaborated with Maui-based chef Sheldon Simeon to curate the menu, which features elevated local favorites such as crispy mochiko chicken with garlic noodles, barbecue teriyaki chicken bento, and corned beef hash with eggs. Additionally, passengers can enjoy signature dishes inspired by Simeon’s restaurants, including K mayo, teriyaki sauce, and banana bread syrup.

Alisa Onishi, the Managing Director of Hawai‘i Marketing at Hawaiian Airlines, emphasized the airline’s commitment to authentic Hawaiian hospitality through this new meal option. The airline will continue to offer free beverages, local snacks, and a sweet treat at the end of the flight.

The airline stated that by transitioning to a pre-order model, they aim to provide a broader menu that aligns with passengers’ dining preferences. Business Class and First Class menus are also being updated, with complimentary snacks remaining available on flights.
