An airline company has stated that it is unlikely to cancel flights during the upcoming summer season due to shortages in jet fuel supply. As Brits gear up for holidays at popular destinations, Air France, in collaboration with partner KLM, reassured travelers that they do not anticipate any disruptions in fuel availability for July and August.
Concerns about potential flight cancellations arose following joint strikes by the US and Israel on key Iranian sites on February 28, leading to retaliatory actions by Iran that included attacks across the Middle East and the closure of the critical Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway for 20% of global oil trade.
Despite these events, multiple airlines have sought to alleviate worries regarding jet fuel scarcity, with Air France’s recent statement aimed at ensuring passengers that their summer travel plans remain intact. The airline group’s CEO, Benjamin Smith, affirmed that Air France, KLM, and Transavia are committed to accommodating all customers throughout the season, with over 2,200 daily flights to more than 320 destinations worldwide.
Emphasizing their monitoring of fuel availability and positive outlook for the peak travel period, Smith highlighted that the airlines are prepared for the high-demand season in July and August. Additionally, customers are being offered increased flexibility, as a promotional campaign starting on June 3, 2026, will allow for free changes to tickets for departures from France. A similar initiative is expected for trips originating in the Netherlands, ensuring that passengers can book with confidence without the worry of unexpected charges.
