During the reception, Kate, Charles, and Camilla interacted with researchers, clinicians, volunteers, and partners of Cancer Research UK. They were welcomed by the Duchess of Gloucester, who is a joint president of the charity. The attendees were shown immersive installations showcasing the advancements in cancer research, particularly highlighting how technology is revolutionizing the field.
Both Kate and Charles have faced cancer diagnoses, with Kate undergoing chemotherapy and announcing her remission last year. She has since resumed her royal duties and recently embarked on a solo working trip to Italy. The King, on the other hand, made a successful visit to the US, receiving accolades for his address to Congress.
Cancer Research UK has been instrumental in improving cancer survival rates over the years, attributing the progress to advancements in research and clinical trials. During the reception, the King, Queen, and Kate also engaged with supporters of the charity, including TV presenter Davina McCall, who shared her own cancer journey and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with Kate.
McCall, who underwent surgery for breast cancer, emphasized the importance of early detection in her recovery process. She previously underwent a surgery to remove a brain tumor and has since received a clean bill of health.
