An unfortunate incident occurred on the A30 in Cornwall near Connor Downs when a multi-vehicle crash resulted in the death of an eight-year-old boy and critical injuries to a five-year-old boy. The incident, which took place just before 11 am on Friday, prompted emergency services to respond swiftly.
Police confirmed the tragic death of the eight-year-old boy at the scene while the five-year-old boy was rushed to Bristol Children’s Hospital and remains in critical condition. Additionally, two women who were in the same car as the boys sustained injuries. A woman in her 70s suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Derriford Hospital, while a woman in her 40s was treated for injuries at Derriford and has since been discharged.
Following the incident, a man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He received treatment for minor injuries and was subsequently released under investigation.
Detective Inspector Andy Heath from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team at Devon and Cornwall Police expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy. Specialists from the Roads Policing Team and Serious Collisions Investigation Team have been conducting thorough inquiries since the weekend, with ongoing investigations planned for the coming weeks.
