A mother and her male partner have been sentenced for committing a series of sexual offenses against the woman’s two teenage daughters. The woman, who cannot be identified for the protection of her daughters, had two children who were placed in care due to her drug addiction, as detailed in court at Leicester Crown Court.
The woman and the male defendant were in a relationship for a decade and had four children together, all of whom were also taken into care, according to a report by Leicestershire Live. As the daughters entered their later teenage years, they reconnected with their mother.
In 2022, the elder daughter, aged 16 at the time, visited her mother in central Leicester. During this visit, while watching a movie with her mother and the man, the mother undressed herself, and the man engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior, attempting to involve the daughter.
Charges were brought against the mother for inciting a child to participate in sexual activities during this incident. In a separate occurrence, the younger daughter, then 18, was visiting her mother when the male partner assaulted her. He kissed her and proceeded to sexually assault her on two occasions, resulting in charges of assault by penetration, sexual touching, and two counts of sexual assault.
Both the man and the woman faced charges of intimidating a crime victim by sending voice messages to discourage support for the prosecution. Despite denying the allegations, they were found guilty by a jury. The woman later admitted to attempting to pervert the course of justice.
During sentencing at Leicester Crown Court, victim impact statements from the daughters were read, expressing their feelings of betrayal and fear. The man received a prison sentence of five years and one month, while the woman was given a suspended two-year imprisonment term, along with drug rehabilitation, reoffending prevention courses, and a victim surcharge.
In court, the mother tearfully accepted her sentencing, promising to complete rehabilitation and cease drug use. The defense lawyers presented arguments, citing the man’s criminal history and the woman’s troubled past as contributing factors to the crimes committed.
