Forecasters have identified four potential hazards to arise from thunderstorms today and into Thursday morning. A yellow weather warning is currently in effect for the storms, expected to be most severe in Wales and the Southwest of England. The Met Office advises the public to prepare emergency kits containing essential items like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack due to heavy rain and potential hailstones.

Following a recent heatwave with temperatures surpassing 30C across the UK, a sudden weather shift is underway as cooler conditions approach. The Met Office has highlighted four main hazards for Brits to be aware of during the stormy weather.

While the Environment Agency has not issued any flood alerts yet, concerns in certain areas have subsided. Rain is projected to be most intense in western regions, with thunderstorms potentially bringing torrential downpours, lightning, large hail, and strong winds.

Moreover, drizzle is expected to move from west to east on Thursday, particularly impacting the Home Counties in the afternoon. This may lead to challenging driving conditions throughout the day, especially during the evening rush hour in parts of Southeast England.

Looking ahead to Thursday, the Met Office forecasts mostly dry conditions with sunny spells, although showers and thunderstorms may develop later in the day across England and Wales. Warmer temperatures are also anticipated.
