A father was seen desperately searching for his teenage daughter at a country park in north Warwickshire after she disappeared in the water, according to witnesses.
The incident unfolded at Kingsbury Water Park near Tamworth on a bank holiday Monday, prompting a swift response from emergency services. The 16-year-old girl was found submerged in the water around 7:20 pm and, despite rescue efforts, tragically passed away at the scene.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the girl was part of a group of youngsters jumping off a bridge into The River Tame when she vanished beneath the water. Floral tributes have been left in memory of the victim known as Lil.
Chief Inspector Ben Hembry, North Warwickshire Area Commander, mentioned that a multi-agency operation involving police, ambulance, and fire services was swiftly initiated upon reports of youths in distress in the water. The incident serves as a reminder to the public to avoid open bodies of water, especially during hot weather.
While details are still emerging, a neighbor highlighted the frantic search efforts by the girl’s father, indicating the gravity of the situation. Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service issued a cautionary message about the dangers of entering open water, emphasizing the risks even in warm weather.
Kingsbury Water Park, spanning over 600 acres with 15 lakes, is managed by Warwickshire County Council. The council extended their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased teenager, acknowledging the tragic loss and offering support during this challenging period.
