Yesterday marked the hottest day of the year thus far, with temperatures exceeding 30C for the first time in 2026. Today is anticipated to be even warmer, with possible highs of 32C in southern regions. It is likely that the annual temperature record will be broken on Monday and Tuesday.
According to the UKV weather model, temperatures may reach 34C in Lincolnshire on Monday, extending to the low-30s in central and southern England. The weather maps indicate potential highs of 35C in London and the south-west on Tuesday, with 18 counties in England expected to see temperatures of 34C or above.
The latest forecast from the Met Office suggests that temperatures will continue to peak at 28C or higher until at least Thursday. An official heatwave is typically declared when temperatures reach the heatwave threshold, varying between 25C and 28C depending on the county, for three consecutive days.
Looking ahead to the period from May 28 to June 6, the Met Office predicts more warm weather, stating that fine weather and light winds are likely to persist across most areas with high pressure prevailing. There may be occasional showers and thunderstorms in the west, but temperatures are expected to remain warm inland, albeit cooler near coastal areas.
As June approaches, there is a possibility of increased cloud cover and occasional rain showers, although warm and dry weather is anticipated in between these weather patterns.
