Robert ‘Robbie’ Doerr, a devoted firefighter from Evansville, Indiana, who had valiantly served for 28 years, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident. Known for his culinary skills that nourished his team, Robert, 51, was also a dedicated family man, having recently married Elizabeth ‘Becky’ Fox-Doerr. The couple’s happiness was short-lived, as suspicions of infidelity began to cast a shadow over their relationship.
On the fateful evening of February 26, 2019, after an extended shift at the Evansville Fire Department, Robert was fatally shot outside his home upon returning. Despite the efforts of first responders, Robert succumbed to his injuries at the scene, leaving behind a mourning community and a grieving widow.
Investigations revealed that the unusual firearm used in the crime, a Taurus Judge model, belonged to Larry Richmond Sr, a parolee with a criminal past. Further inquiries implicated both Richmond Sr and Fox-Doerr in a conspiracy to murder Robert for financial gain. Subsequent testimonies and evidence led to their conviction for murder and conspiracy, with Fox-Doerr receiving a 90-year prison sentence, while Richmond Sr was sentenced to life without parole.
The tragic loss of Robert Doerr continues to be felt at the fire station where he once served, with his memory honored through the dedication of a new fire truck in his name. Despite the heartbreak and betrayal that marked his untimely demise, Robert remains a cherished hero in the hearts of many.
