Temperatures are set to plummet to as low as -1C in certain regions post a recent heatwave over the weekend. The Met Office anticipates highs of 31C on Saturday and 32C on Sunday, with Monday likely to hit a record-breaking 33C for May, followed by 32C on Tuesday. Some areas are expected to officially experience a heatwave, with the southeast being the hottest region. However, the Midlands and parts of Wales could also witness heatwave conditions during the Bank Holiday weekend.

As the hot weather continues, there is speculation on how long it will persist. The latest GFS weather model suggests a significant drop in temperatures by the following Sunday. Temperature anomaly maps indicate areas, including Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Midlands, and eastern England, where temperatures are expected to fall below the seasonal average.

According to the Met Office, temperatures could plummet to as low as -1C in Scotland around 6am, with lows of 1C in Northern Ireland and 3C in eastern England. Only five counties in the southwest of England are projected to reach double-digit temperatures.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steve Kocher mentioned that there is a high likelihood of breaking the May and Spring UK temperature records over the Bank Holiday weekend, with the current record standing at 32.8C. The Met Office forecasts that heatwave conditions may prevail in parts of the southeast starting this Sunday and could extend to central and western England as well as parts of Wales.

The British Red Cross has issued guidelines to help individuals stay safe during the impending heatwave. Dafydd Beech, National Community Education Manager at the British Red Cross, emphasized the importance of taking precautions to prevent dehydration, sunburn, or heatstroke during hot weather. Simple steps such as wearing sunscreen, staying hydrated, and taking breaks from direct sunlight are recommended for staying safe in the heat.
