Elderly Pedestrian Killed in London Lorry Collision

A man in his 70s has passed away following a collision with a lorry on a bustling street in London.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene around 11:05 am today on Clapham High Street. Regrettably, the man was pronounced deceased at the location.

The stretch of road between Nelsons Row and Tremadoc Road was shut down while investigators conducted accident analysis work, as per information from travel site Inrix.

Video footage shared online depicted the police cordoning off the affected area, with a blue tent clearly visible in the center. Nearby, a Sainsbury’s and an M&S Foodhall were closed in response to the incident, as reported by My London.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the man’s death around 11:35 am, with his family duly notified. Authorities have issued a plea for witnesses or individuals with dashcam recordings to come forward.

A police spokesperson relayed, “A pedestrian in his 70s was involved in a collision with a HGV on Clapham High Street at 11:03 am on Friday, May 22. Police, along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, attended the scene.”

“Despite medical intervention by paramedics, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at 11:36 hrs. Relatives have been informed, and an investigation is underway. Anyone with relevant information or footage is urged to contact the authorities.”

Additionally, the London Ambulance Service confirmed the man’s demise. Despite extensive efforts by paramedics, the individual could not be saved.

“We received reports of a road traffic incident on Clapham High Street, SW4, at 11:05 am today (Friday, May 22). Our response included ambulance crews, paramedics in rapid response vehicles, and support from London’s Air Ambulance.”

“Unfortunately, despite the tireless efforts of our teams, the individual was declared deceased at the scene.” The closure of the area has resulted in significant traffic congestion around Clapham High Street.
