The US under Donald Trump’s leadership has announced plans to deploy 5,000 troops to Poland in response to nuclear threats from Russian President Vladimir Putin. This decision follows the recent cancellation by the Pentagon of troop deployments to Poland, a NATO member state.

The move by Trump, which seemed unexpected to his own defense department, coincided with military exercises conducted by Russia and its ally Belarus, both of which share borders with Poland. The deployment is intended to reassure Poland and its neighboring Baltic NATO allies, including Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

Putin, in a separate development, assumed direct control of large-scale nuclear war games involving Russia and Belarus. While emphasizing that the use of nuclear weapons is a last resort for national security, Putin highlighted the need for their presence in light of escalating global tensions and emerging threats.

The deployment of troops to Poland signifies a strategic response to the geopolitical situation in the region, underscoring the commitment to security and defense cooperation within NATO.
