The Met Office anticipates temperatures reaching 33C during the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend, signaling an official heatwave. According to the national weather agency, temperatures will climb starting Friday, particularly in southern regions, potentially hitting 30C on Saturday, 32C on Sunday, and peaking at 33C on Monday. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steve Kocher mentioned that the current record of 32.8C might be surpassed, breaking both May and Spring UK temperature records.

This expected heatwave will be triggered by three consecutive days of temperatures exceeding the defined heatwave threshold, ranging from 25C to 28C in different areas. The upcoming weekend is predicted to surpass this threshold, solidifying the heatwave status.

The Met Office forecasts that heatwave conditions will first appear in the south-east on Sunday and then spread to central and western England and parts of Wales. Weather maps align with these projections, showing significant temperature anomalies across the country, indicating temperatures well above the seasonal average.

Furthermore, maximum temperature maps suggest that as many as 21 counties could experience temperatures of 30C or higher on Monday. In preparation for the heatwave, the British Red Cross has issued guidelines to help individuals stay safe during the high temperatures.

Dafydd Beech, National Community Education Manager at the British Red Cross, emphasized the importance of staying safe during warm weather by taking precautions like wearing sunscreen, staying hydrated, and seeking shade when necessary. Establishing these habits early can better prepare individuals for prolonged hot weather conditions.
