A well-known discount supermarket chain is conducting clearance sales as it gets ready to shut down one of its stores in the United States. Save A Lot has already shuttered locations in Buffalo, New York, and Newark, New Jersey this year and is now gearing up to close a store in Lewiston, Maine. The exact closing date has not been finalized.
Customers at the Lewiston store, which underwent renovations three years ago, can enjoy discounts of up to 10% on all items. Save A Lot expressed that the closure was beyond its control and described the situation as “extremely painful.” The store officials shared on social media that they are no longer able to serve the community due to circumstances outside their control.
Reports indicate that the popular US grocery chain Hannaford will be taking over the 51,000-square-foot space, becoming the second store in the vicinity. The anticipated opening of the new store is scheduled for early next year.
A Reddit user expressed disappointment, saying, “Kind of a bummer they are being chased out by Hannaford.” Another user reflected on their memories, stating, “My grandpa used to take me to Save a Lot and Caswells for a lot of our shopping, then Edward’s for lunch. Thanks for the memories.”
Following the closure of the store in Lewiston, Save A Lot will have three remaining stores in Maine.
