Rory McIlroy changed his tune about the course conditions at Aronimink after a stellar round of golf, scoring six birdies to card a four-under-par 66. This performance has put him back in the running for the US PGA Championship, boosting his confidence for a potential seventh major title. Despite his earlier frustrations, McIlroy now sees himself as a strong contender.

The 37-year-old, just one stroke off the lead, rebounded from a rough start in the tournament with a solid showing in the second and third rounds. He teed off early in the morning and briefly shared the lead before a setback on the 17th hole.

In a post-round interview, McIlroy acknowledged the challenges of the course but also noted the excitement it brings to the tournament. He mentioned watching his competitors and enjoying some downtime with a movie, intending to relax and refocus for the upcoming rounds.

As the competition heats up, McIlroy remains optimistic about his chances, acknowledging the strong performances of other top contenders like Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm. Despite a few errors in the closing holes, he believes he is still in contention and aims to stay competitive in the tournament.

With the scoring conditions easing up on the third day, McIlroy recognized the need to capitalize on the opportunity, making his move up the leaderboard. His performance has positioned him well among a crowded field of contenders vying for the prestigious title.
