Aaron Rai, hailing from England, emerged victorious at the 2026 PGA Championship held at Aronimink Golf Club with an outstanding final round display. Rai, born in Wombourne, Staffordshire, secured his inaugural major title in Pennsylvania by carding a remarkable 65, finishing at -9 across the tournament days.

Following his par putt on the 18th hole, Rai shared an emotional moment with his caddie, Jason Timmis, and then embraced his wife, Gaurika Bishnoi.

After confirming his score, Rai posed for photos with his scorecard before heading back onto the course accompanied by his wife.

Despite players like Alex Smalley, Jon Rahm, and Matti Schmid still completing their rounds post Rai’s victory, his significant lead had already secured the title even before the final players reached the 18th hole.

Ranked 44th in the PGA world rankings, Rai delivered a remarkable performance in the back nine, surpassing renowned names such as Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

Starting the final 18 holes trailing leader Alex Smalley by two shots, the 31-year-old capitalized on the leaders’ errors, clinching the Wanamaker Trophy in Pennsylvania with an eagle and an impressive six birdies, overturning the initial deficit.

A standout moment occurred on the 17th hole as Rai sank a remarkable 30-foot putt while Schmid stumbled on the 15th, further solidifying Rai’s lead.

Rai’s remarkable victory marks the first time an Englishman has claimed the PGA Championship title since Jim Barnes in 1919.

Awaiting the completion of the final group’s rounds, Rai exuded joy in the Aronimink clubhouse.

Subsequently, Rai returned to the course to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy once Schmid and Smalley finished their rounds.

Smalley, securing a birdie on the 18th hole, claimed the runner-up position alongside Rahm before extending his congratulations to Rai on the way back to the clubhouse.

The trophy presentation for the 108th PGA Championship ensued, with Rai receiving warm applause from the audience, proudly holding the prestigious Wanamaker Trophy and reflecting on his exceptional triumph.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Rai expressed his astonishment at his victory, emphasizing the challenging season he had overcome and the joy of his unexpected win.
