A man in Toxteth pub attacked another patron with a knife, causing a severe ear injury, after being assaulted and threatened. Joseph McClean-Evans brandished a knife during the altercation at the Queens Arms pub, responding to being pushed and punched to the ground by another individual. The incident, captured on CCTV, showed a heated exchange between McClean-Evans and the man before the violent confrontation.
Following the pub incident, McClean-Evans engaged in disturbing behavior towards the mother of his children, making alarming threats of violence, including shooting and raping her family members. Despite being arrested at the scene with blood on his clothing and appearing intoxicated, McClean-Evans claimed self-defense and was released pending further investigation.
Later, McClean-Evans harassed his former partner, making multiple threatening calls and showing up at her residence in the early hours of the morning. He physically assaulted her, threatened her family members, and displayed aggressive behavior. Despite his troubled history with 15 prior convictions, including offenses related to weapons and violence, McClean-Evans attributed his actions to his struggles with ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, anxiety, and bereavements.
McClean-Evans pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding, possession of a bladed article in public, and harassment. Despite his absence from a court hearing, he was sentenced to four years in prison and issued a 10-year restraining order against contacting his former partner. The judge highlighted the severity of McClean-Evans’ actions, emphasizing the unprovoked use of a knife in the pub altercation and the distress caused to his former partner.
