An 18-year-old teenager who fell into a two-week coma had to undergo leg amputation following a tragic hit-and-run motorcycle accident. Shaun Narloch, a resident of Finglas near Dublin, Ireland, was struck by a car while returning home on Easter Monday. The driver, who was reportedly operating a white Renault Kaptur with a black roof in Ballymum, fled the scene, prompting a police search.

Shaun was swiftly taken to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma for two weeks due to severe injuries, including a badly injured right leg. He underwent surgery on his shattered right ankle and received orthopedic plates. His mother, Aga Narloch, expressed her anguish over seeing her son in such a critical condition, emphasizing the emotional turmoil parents face in such situations.

The incident unfolded as Shaun’s family awaited his return home, with his girlfriend Layla present. Concern grew when Shaun failed to arrive, eventually leading to the devastating news of the accident on Santry Avenue. Shaun’s condition was critical, necessitating immediate surgery and subsequent placement in the ICU for two weeks. Due to complications, his left leg had to be amputated, and he battled kidney failure and sepsis during his treatment.

Despite the physical and emotional challenges, Shaun’s resilience shines through as he focuses on gratitude and survival. Aga has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to finance a prosthetic leg for Shaun, enabling him to regain mobility. The cost estimate for the prosthetic leg stands at €50,000 (approximately £43,000), with generous donations already pouring in to support Shaun’s recovery.

In a heartfelt plea, Aga thanked everyone who assisted Shaun following the accident and those contributing to his cause. The family’s message underscores the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of resilience and community support during challenging times. Authorities continue to seek witnesses to the hit-and-run incident in Ballymun, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and aid the investigation.
