A photo from over a decade ago showing Keir Starmer, Wes Streeting, and Catherine West together in the Commons chamber has resurfaced. The current Prime Minister shared the image on his first day as an elected MP in 2015. The throwback picture, taken 11 years ago, features the three politicians seated together, with the PM captioning the tweet with mentions of Catherine West and Wes Streeting. The post has gained renewed attention online, sparking discussions on social media prior to a crucial meeting between the Labour leader and his Health Secretary.

Amid the Labour leadership tensions, Wes Streeting took a break to honor the healthcare heroes of the country. Attending a service at London’s Westminster Abbey to commemorate Florence Nightingale, the Health Secretary expressed gratitude to nurses and midwives worldwide for continuing Nightingale’s legacy in healthcare improvement. He acknowledged the dedication of frontline workers in his speech at the event.

Over the weekend, Catherine West, a former associate of the PM, encouraged Bridget Phillipson to challenge him for leadership. West warned that unless Cabinet members select a new leader, she would consider challenging Starmer herself. During a discussion with Bridget Phillipson on a BBC program, West emphasized the need for senior women to step up and navigate the challenges ahead, leading up to the general election and beyond.

In response, Bridget Phillipson disagreed with Catherine West’s stance, expressing her affection for her but differing in opinion. Keir Starmer remains resolute in his commitment to his long-term vision of transforming the country, as he aims to see through his 10-year project.

Catherine West highlighted the importance of accountability in leadership, drawing parallels to the actions taken in failing schools or businesses. She emphasized the need for modernization within the Labour party, criticizing its perceived outdated approach.

Despite recent ministerial resignations causing destabilization in the government, support for Keir Starmer remains strong, with over 100 backbenchers reportedly backing him. Speculations suggest that Angela Rayner might challenge Wes Streeting in a potential leadership contest.

While acknowledging the recent challenges faced by the government, the PM emphasized the need to focus on governing, as the process for challenging his leadership had not been initiated. However, the resignations of ministers Miatta Fahnbulleh, Jess Phillips, Alex Davies-Jones, and Zubir Ahmed have shaken No10.

In her resignation letter, Jess Phillips expressed disappointment in the government’s pace and vision, citing a lack of ambition required to fulfill the mandate for change.
