A British retiree was discovered deceased in his lodging in Thailand shortly after finalizing a divorce from his spouse. The 74-year-old, who had been incapacitated for an extended period, resided alone in a remote area of Nan province in northern Thailand. Identified as a former aviation engineer from Southport, he had been occupying a modestly furnished room following his separation from his wife.

Reportedly dependent on his estranged wife and her family for daily assistance and meals, the man was found lifeless on May 11, mere days post the divorce settlement. Police were alerted to the situation by the property owner, Kham, who observed the man motionless through a window. Responding officers discovered him laid out on the bed, with items like a mug, water bottles, and a garbage bag nearby.

Additional water bottles, condiments, sandwich spreads, and an unopened bottle of Korean soju were found on a nearby table. Law enforcement noted no signs of foul play, suggesting a possible demise due to an underlying health issue. Police Captain Trairat Tengtrairat from Mueang Nan Police Station stated that a thorough examination of the scene was conducted, including a crime scene reconstruction, and the body was sent for a post-mortem evaluation at Nan Hospital.

The property owner recalled seeing the man alive roughly two days before the tragic discovery. She mentioned that the deceased had leased the room for about a year and had become unwell several months back, necessitating assistance from his former wife’s relatives. The ex-wife confirmed the recent divorce, occurring only a few days before the demise, following which the man relocated to a rented accommodation. Authorities were in the process of informing the British Embassy for further protocol handling.
