A professional footballer is in critical condition after a car crashed into individuals in a town center, injuring both the player and the team manager.
The incident occurred at Market Place in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, around 1 pm on Saturday when a red Vauxhall Astra collided with a group of people. Woodthorpe Park Rangers FC confirmed that three team members, including the manager, were hit by the car, resulting in one player being hospitalized in critical condition.
Nottinghamshire Police reported that the collision followed an earlier altercation in the town center. The vehicle struck a group of people, causing one man to sustain life-threatening injuries and four others to suffer less severe injuries.
The driver abandoned the car at the scene and fled on foot. Subsequently, a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, as confirmed by the police on Saturday evening.
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, leading the investigation, emphasized the importance of not speculating on the incident and respecting the privacy of those involved. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are open to receiving any relevant information from the public, including dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage.
All road closures in the area have been lifted, with gratitude expressed to the local community for their cooperation during the investigation.
