Vladimir Putin is currently facing widespread mockery due to his gaunt and feeble appearance, sparking growing concerns about his well-being and the state of his health.
Fearing potential threats such as a coup or assassination from Ukraine, the Russian leader was criticized by his adversary Mikhail Khodorkovsky as a “deeply fearful, aging dictator” following his recent public appearance in Moscow to mark Victory Day.
Notably, Ukrainian commentator Anton Gerashchenko highlighted a unflattering image of the 73-year-old former intelligence officer with puffy cheeks, sarcastically commenting on Putin’s appearance and suggesting that even his Botox treatments may be affected by sanctions.
Observers pointed out various physical changes in Putin’s appearance, including a lopsided and pillow-like face, uneven cheeks, and a wax-like, aging appearance. The monitoring group Crimean Wind hinted at a historical pattern where dictators visibly aged before their regimes’ downfall or demise, attributing this to chronic stress, fear of losing power, and isolation speeding up the aging process.
Putin’s critic, Leonid Nevzlin, interpreted the subdued parade, devoid of military equipment for the first time in nearly two decades, as a symbol of Putin’s weakening control over the country. He emphasized that the regime’s future now hinges on the health of one individual rather than on elections, political direction, or elite divisions.
The heightened security presence around Putin during recent events was noted as unprecedented, suggesting either his own fears or deliberate tactics to instill paranoia. He was described as being enclosed within a bubble of security, appearing increasingly isolated and vulnerable.
Recent statistics revealed a significant loss of personnel – including casualties and prisoners – totaling 7,480 individuals in the first week of May alone. This equates to a loss every 80 seconds, underscoring the ongoing challenges and pressures faced by Putin’s administration.
