A woman was let go just 15 minutes into her first day at a renowned golf club in Scotland due to her tattoos, despite having showcased them during the interview process. Abbie Foote, 25, revealed that she openly displayed her tattoos on her arms and neck during her final interview but was unexpectedly sent home shortly after starting her shift, unaware that her body art would pose an issue.

After expressing her frustration online, a video of Abbie’s experience garnered over 866,000 views and 56,800 likes. Abbie, hailing from Carnoustie, Scotland, expressed her surprise, stating, “I had no idea that the tattoo on my neck would be problematic, especially since I had worked there before with visible tattoos and had re-interviewed with them recently.”

Abbie, who had previously worked at Carnoustie Golf Links, a prestigious golf course, with tattoos, found herself dismissed on her first day due to her latest tattoo addition on her neck. Despite re-interviewing with her tattoos visible just days before, she was informed by HR only 15 minutes into her shift that her tattoos did not align with the new buyer’s preferences.

In shock and disbelief, Abbie tried to negotiate with HR, offering to conceal her tattoos with a zip-up uniform, but to no avail. The sudden dismissal left her devastated, especially after resigning from her previous job to return to the golf course.

Following the dismissal meeting, Abbie’s team leader documented the conversation and acknowledged being unaware of the unwritten policy change enforced by the new buyer. Abbie later received an email citing an “internal error” in considering the uniform policy, which did not permit full skin coverage tattoos in customer-facing roles.

Despite being offered a week’s wages, Abbie felt it was inadequate compensation, describing it as “hush money.” She accepted the offer due to the sudden loss of income but expressed her dissatisfaction with the situation.

Carnoustie Golf Links was contacted for a response on the matter.
