A tragic incident unfolded during a family beach trip as a one-year-old boy lost his life in a hit-and-run accident. The heartbreaking crash occurred in Playa Del Ray, Los Angeles, when Baby Roger Sandoval Farias, along with his mother and uncle, was struck by a Jeep Cherokee while returning from the beach outing. Despite efforts to revive Roger at the scene, the attempts were unsuccessful, as reported by witnesses to local news outlet NBC4.
Nicole Farias, Roger’s mother, expressed her devastation, stating, “I shouldn’t be burying my son. I wanted to see him walk, you know?” She was heard desperately trying to revive Roger, lamenting, “He’s still warm, he’s still warm,” as recounted by The Mirror US.
Eyewitness Cory Cooper, among others who rushed to assist, described the scene where they attempted CPR on Roger until emergency services arrived. Tragically, Roger’s uncle, Oswaldo Sandoval Amaya, aged 25, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot without stopping to provide aid or identify themselves, as required by law.
A fundraising page was set up by Roger’s grandmother to support the family during this difficult time. The page highlights Roger’s joyful and uplifting nature, expressing the family’s deep loss and the need for financial assistance to arrange a fitting farewell for him.
