A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of head chef Alexis De Naray, whom he attacked and left for dead in a disused garage. Adam Rowson, 26, was found guilty of the crime after a trial lasting 12 days at Stafford Crown Court.

During the trial, it was revealed that Rowson had met Mr. De Naray at a hospital and offered him a place to stay for one night. However, the encounter turned violent, resulting in Mr. De Naray suffering severe injuries including a traumatic brain injury, rib fractures, and other injuries consistent with a sustained and vicious assault.

Judge Avik Mukherjee described Rowson’s actions as “fierce, sustained and relentless” and highlighted the callousness with which Rowson used Mr. De Naray’s bank card to purchase items for himself after the attack. The judge emphasized that Rowson showed no remorse for his actions and failed to seek help for the victim, instead leaving him to die alone in the garage.

Family members of the victim, including his brother and father, expressed their profound grief and loss, describing Mr. De Naray as a kind, loving, and talented individual who was taken away in a senseless and tragic manner. They emphasized the impact of his death on their lives and the void left by his absence.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Mukherjee condemned Rowson’s behavior, stating that he knowingly caused the death of Mr. De Naray and then attempted to cover up his actions by lying to authorities. Rowson’s defense lawyer acknowledged his client’s remorse and attributed his actions to substance abuse issues, but the judge underscored the severity of the crime and the need for accountability.

Despite Rowson’s apology and efforts to rehabilitate himself while in custody, the judge emphasized the gravity of the offense and the lasting impact on the victim’s family. Rowson’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of violent acts and the importance of seeking justice for the victims of such crimes.
