A mother initially attributing her bloating to menopause received a colon cancer diagnosis after noticing unusual symptoms, including blood in her stool. Natalie Hushin, 54, from Runcorn, Cheshire, underwent a colonoscopy revealing tumors on her colon, leading to a cancer diagnosis. Following a 10-and-a-half-hour surgery to remove the tumor and subsequent chemotherapy, Natalie shared her experience to raise awareness about colon cancer symptoms, which can include unexplained weight loss.

Despite the treatment, a PET scan in December identified a tumor on her liver, requiring further intervention. After delays, Natalie underwent a liver resection to remove the tumor. She emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention for concerning symptoms, recounting the emotional impact of her diagnosis in June the previous year.

Global data from the World Health Organization revealed over 900,000 deaths from colon cancer in 2022. Natalie’s early detection and subsequent treatments have been crucial in her recovery. She now faces regular monitoring through scans for the next decade. Reflecting on her journey, she praised her medical team but highlighted the importance of timely interventions to avoid more invasive procedures.
