The UK is set to bask in sunshine on Bank Holiday Monday, with many people heading to the beach to enjoy the warm 18C weather. Despite some initial concerns, most of Britain is expected to have a dry Early May Bank Holiday, with sunny spells forecast for the majority of the country and only light showers in the far south.
Temperatures are predicted to be highest in the counties surrounding London, reaching around 18C in areas like Kent, Surrey, Berkshire, and Greater London. The south coast may see highs of 16C, while the north could experience temperatures up to 15C according to the latest weather reports.
Senior meteorologist Jim Dale from British Weather Services mentioned that while there may be light showers in some southern counties of England and Wales, as well as in the far north of Scotland, most areas will have fair weather with average temperatures. A foggy morning is expected in Southern England, followed by light drizzle along the south coast, and the possibility of thunderstorms developing in the evening between Exeter and Brighton.
The Met Office anticipates scattered light showers throughout the day, particularly in the south, but these showers are expected to be lighter compared to the weekend rainfall. Deputy chief forecaster Mark Sidaway stated that although Bank Holiday Monday will have some cloud cover and scattered showers in southern and central regions, they should be lighter and less frequent than over the weekend.
In the north and northeast of England, temperatures may feel slightly cooler, but light winds are expected, reducing the chill factor. The Met Office highlighted that in the farther north and northeast regions, there might be fresher conditions with scattered showers, possibly wintry over higher ground in the far northeast. Winds are forecast to be mainly light to moderate, with temperatures near average for most areas, but feeling noticeably colder in the northern and northeastern parts.
