Renewed tensions between Iran and the US are expected to escalate, as a senior Iranian official has raised concerns about a potential breakdown of the temporary ceasefire. Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a prominent figure in the Iranian military’s central command, criticized the White House for not honoring agreements and accused Washington of being more focused on media attention and economic interests rather than genuine negotiations. Asadi emphasized Iran’s preparedness for any further hostile actions by the United States.

The Iranian official highlighted the lack of commitment from the US in fulfilling promises and agreements, suggesting that a mutually beneficial deal seems unlikely. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the peace proposals put forward by Iran, leading to the extension of the ceasefire without a definite resolution after talks in Islamabad.

The ongoing crisis in the Middle East has repercussions in Europe, with Trump’s announcement of reducing troops from Germany causing concerns among top Republican lawmakers. Senator Roger Wicker and Representative Mike Rogers cautioned against the potential negative impact on US forces in Europe and deterrence efforts, urging thorough discussions on the decision.

In response to Trump’s troop withdrawal plan, Germany’s defense minister and NATO spokesperson acknowledged the anticipated reduction of US forces in Europe and pledged to cooperate with the US on force posture adjustments.

The conflict in the Middle East continues to disrupt the global oil market, with experts warning of a possible supply shortage that could lead to significant price hikes. Concerns are mounting that oil reserves could deplete rapidly, impacting various industries and potentially triggering a recession by June.

Meanwhile, Lebanon reported a rising death toll from Israeli attacks, with casualties mounting over the past two months. The toll stands at 2,659 deaths, including recent casualties, and thousands have been wounded since Israel’s renewed assaults on Lebanon in early March.
