A woman has been sent to prison for attacking her sister, a film director, by slashing her throat and stealing her valuable diamond-encrusted gold Rolex watch.
Nancy Pexton, aged 70, received a life sentence with a minimum of 22 years after being found guilty of murdering her sister, Jennifer Abbott, who was 69 years old at the time of the incident. The crime occurred on June 10 last year, and Abbott’s body was left unattended in her Camden residence for three days.
During the trial at the Old Bailey, it was revealed that Pexton viciously stabbed her sister 10 times, silenced her with tape over her mouth, and left her lifeless in her flat in Camden, dressed only in underwear. Prosecutors stated that Pexton harbored jealousy towards her sister, a renowned documentary maker, and their relationship was marked by frequent arguments and reconciliations. Testimony from Abbott’s son, Brad Carlson, highlighted the underlying resentment between the siblings.
Concerned for Abbott’s well-being, family members asked Pexton’s daughter to check on her, leading to the discovery of the tragic scene. Despite the heinous act, Abbott’s pet Corgi, Prince, was found alive in the bathroom after surviving unattended for three days.
Following the murder, Pexton feigned an overdose and sought medical attention, but police later apprehended her. Despite initially claiming the Rolex watch was a gift from her sister, the timepiece was discovered in her possession, contradicting her statements. Additionally, evidence on Pexton’s phone revealed disturbing notes expressing animosity towards her sister and other relatives.
Prosecutor William Boyce, KC, characterized Pexton as both emotionally unstable and deceitful, emphasizing the intense family dynamics at play in the case. Pexton, who was slightly younger than her victim, opted not to testify in court but was ultimately found guilty of murder by the Old Bailey jury after less than three hours of deliberation.
