An inquiry into the tragic sinking of the Bayesian superyacht, which resulted in the loss of seven lives, including a billionaire, has revealed that the fatal incident was not caused by a storm.

The vessel, belonging to British tycoon Mike Lynch, went down off the shores of Sicily amidst stormy weather in August 2024. Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, were among those who perished in the tragic event.

Italian prosecutors commissioned a team of experts to investigate whether the storm could have been the primary factor behind the superyacht’s sinking. The investigation indicated that the storm was merely a brief gust known as a squall, which typically precedes thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, a situation that should have been manageable for the crew.

Initial findings suggest that the yacht actually sank due to mishandling by crew members, as per reports from Sky News. The prosecutors in Italy are contemplating whether to press charges for negligent shipwreck and multiple manslaughter against the captain and two crew members.

Furthermore, authorities are considering the potential responsibility of the superyacht’s builder in the incident. The Bayesian went down near Palermo around 5 a.m. on August 19 of that year.
