Tense moments unfolded as Sir Keir Starmer arrived to address local Jewish leaders today. A crowd of around 200 individuals gathered and some attempted to approach, but were held back by a large police presence. The Prime Minister unexpectedly spent an extended hour-and-a-half at the community center in Golders Green, prompting mixed reactions from the attendees.
While some expressed surprise and appreciation for Starmer’s visit and prolonged stay, a significant portion of the crowd displayed anger similar to the previous day when they disrupted Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley. Amidst chants of “Keir Starmer is a joker,” a man within the crowd stood up to defend Starmer, emphasizing the importance of mindful expressions in the public eye.
The verbal altercation continued for about 20 minutes until Starmer’s departure back to Downing Street. The organized protests included chanting resembling football cheers as the Prime Minister’s convoy arrived at Pearl House in Golders Green. Some voices accused Starmer of betrayal, while others cautioned against turning to alternative leaders in the moment of frustration.
Notably, a group of women sang accusations against Starmer, and banners with offensive messages were displayed. Additional police presence was summoned to ensure Starmer’s safe exit after his car entered the premises. Despite some individuals calling for Starmer to show himself, others defended his efforts to engage with the community during the visit.
After the protest dispersed, a few attendees remained to express gratitude to the police for their handling of the event.
