A woman who viciously killed her newborn child was captured on video storming out of her gender reveal celebration upon learning she was going to have a daughter.

Nicole Blain, aged 30, was recently convicted of the murder of her 19-day-old baby, Thea Jane Wilson, following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The infant, Thea, sustained severe injuries, including three skull fractures, brain trauma, and retinal hemorrhaging, during a violent incident at Blain’s residence in Greenock, Inverclyde, on July 14, 2023. These injuries indicated that the baby had been violently shaken and forcefully struck against a hard surface.

Video footage has surfaced from Blain’s gender reveal party for her unborn child, Thea, which was held on February 7, 2023. The video shows Blain visibly upset as she holds a pink knife.

In the footage, Blain is seen arguing with a family member who is holding a black balloon containing either blue or pink confetti to reveal the baby’s gender. After successfully popping the balloon, pink confetti scatters around the room. Subsequently, Blain walks away.

Blain tried to conceal her daughter’s death by claiming she found Thea on the floor upon waking up from a nap. She later falsely accused another child present in the house of causing Thea’s injuries. However, a pathologist confirmed that the injuries sustained by Thea were not accidental and could not have been caused by the other child.

During the trial, Thea was described as “perfect” when she was born on June 25, 2023. Blain, who had been on bail, cried uncontrollably as she was escorted to the cells. She is set to appear in court again next month.

On the day of the incident, there had been plans for Blain to take Thea to her paternal grandmother’s house in Ayrshire. However, around 2 pm, the grandmother’s husband received a distressing call from Blain, hearing screams and realizing it was the baby crying. He instructed Blain to call for an ambulance.

The grandmother, Laura Wilson, rushed to the hospital to be with her granddaughter and questioned Blain about the events leading to Thea’s injuries. Blain falsely claimed that another child in the house was responsible for the harm inflicted on Thea.

The severe injuries suffered by Thea, including skull fractures and chest injuries, were consistent with deliberate abusive actions. The pathologist explained to the jury that a combination of violent shaking and impact with a hard surface could have caused these devastating injuries.

In court, Blain professed her love for Thea, a sentiment she also expressed in text messages to Laura Wilson. In a separate incident, Blain was filmed being forced out of her previous residence after being confronted by an angry crowd.

Blain, who had a prior assault conviction, is awaiting sentencing pending further reports.
