The associates of a 76-year-old man who was assaulted in Golders Green, North London, have come forward to share their thoughts. The disturbing incident took place yesterday morning within the Jewish community of Golders Green, North London, near the site where four ambulances were set on fire by arsonists last month. Law enforcement officials are interrogating a suspect highlighted by the Met Commissioner as having “violent tendencies and mental health challenges,” and the incident is being probed by counter-terrorism units.

Two individuals, aged 76 and 34, identified as Moshe Shine and Shloime Rand, sustained severe stab wounds and were hospitalized for treatment. The perpetrator also made an attempt to attack police officers but was subdued with a Taser before being apprehended.

Friends of Moshe Shine have conveyed that he is a gentle individual and expressed concerns about feeling unsafe in the current environment. One friend described Shine as a kind-hearted person who never exhibited aggression or raised his voice, emphasizing his peaceful nature.

In a separate account, Rand, recuperating in the hospital, voiced the community’s apprehensions about safety and criticized the government for what they perceive as inaction in addressing the ongoing security issues. Rand expressed gratitude for his recovery and highlighted the community’s distress over the recent surge in attacks.

The Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, condemned the antisemitic attack in Golders Green as “utterly appalling,” affirming that assaults on the Jewish community are an affront to the nation. Following the incident, a meeting of the government’s Cobra crisis committee was convened, with the PM assuring swift and effective justice for such cases.

A 45-year-old British national born in Somalia has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident. After receiving medical treatment, the suspect was transferred to a London police station for further questioning and remains in custody.
