During King Charles III’s state visit to the US, an awkward moment was captured between Donald Trump and his wife Melania. Following a formal greeting between world leaders in Washington DC, Trump was seen briefly cradling Melania’s backside. The President’s gesture drew attention as photographers documented the exchange, showing Trump quickly retracting his hand and proceeding to shake hands with the King.

Social media users commented on the incident, with some noting Trump’s informal behavior towards Melania. Observers also pointed out that neither Trump nor Melania adhered to traditional royal protocol by bowing or curtsying to the royals, sparking criticism online. Despite the perceived breach of protocol, it was highlighted that the King and Queen do not strictly enforce traditional etiquette, and both the President and First Lady hold significant positions as heads of state.

While some criticized the Trumps for their actions during the royal meeting, it is noted that meeting a member of the Royal Family does not have strict rules of behavior, according to the Royal Family’s official site. The incident added to previous controversies involving Trump and royal protocol, including a past instance where Trump walked ahead of Queen Elizabeth II during a state visit to the UK.
