An investigation is underway following a fire that broke out at an RAF base early on Sunday morning. Fire crews battled a significant blaze at a Gloucestershire airbase, where a storage building at the RAF Fairford site was engulfed in flames. The fire, believed to have started around 1 am, has been deemed accidental by Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue.

RAF Fairford, utilized by the US Air Force since March for defensive strikes, has sparked controversy due to its involvement in the Iran conflict. A peaceful anti-war protest took place on Saturday at the base, with around 200 participants marching to the end of the runway. Demonstrators carried signs with messages such as “US out of British bases” and “Stop Trump’s deadly wars.”

The base, one of only two in Europe capable of accommodating all three of America’s long-range bombers, confirmed that no injuries occurred during the fire. The US Air Force stated that the fire has been contained and poses no threat to the base or local community. An ongoing investigation is being conducted, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service reported that the fire, involving a single-story industrial storage building, was safely brought under control with no casualties. Crews remain on-site as a precaution, ensuring the incident is fully resolved. Initial findings suggest the fire was accidental.
