RAF fighter jets were deployed in response to Russian attacks on Ukrainian river ports along the River Danube. Two Royal Air Force Eurofighters took off from Borcea Air Base in Romania following strikes by forces under Vladimir Putin.
The RAF confirmed the jets’ deployment, noting that they did not engage with Russian assets or breach Ukrainian airspace. Russian forces resumed drone attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets near the river border with Romania, prompting the RAF’s response.
The British Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft detected drones flying close to Romanian airspace. Subsequently, the aircraft were authorized to engage a drone target located over Ukrainian territory near Reni.
Explosions were reported in Reni, Ukraine, following the drone engagement. Romania strongly criticized the Putin regime for targeting the Odesa region, dangerously close to NATO territory across the Danube.
The Ministry of National Defence condemned Russia’s actions, highlighting the threat to regional security in the Black Sea area. These incidents underscore Russia’s disregard for international law and pose risks to Romanian citizens and NATO’s collective security.
In another development, French fighters in Poland, supported by Dutch armed forces as part of NATO, were mobilized as Russia launched missile and drone strikes on Ukraine. The strikes caused significant damage, including the flattening of a residential building in Dnipro and attacks in various regions like Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, and Cherkasy.
During the intense overnight assaults, Russia launched numerous missiles and drones at Ukraine, with a substantial number being intercepted. Ukrainian drones retaliated by targeting major Russian cities, marking a significant escalation in the conflict.
In a retaliatory move, Ukrainian long-range drones struck Russian cities in the Ural Mountains, causing damage to strategic locations. The Kremlin faced repercussions, including an attack on a high-rise tower in Yekaterinburg and reports of strikes near military facilities in Chelyabinsk.
