An RAF airbase in Suffolk, RAF Lakenheath, went into lockdown earlier today due to a security incident. Security personnel responded swiftly around 8 am when an individual reportedly tried to enter Gate 2 without proper identification.
According to a spokesperson for the airbase, the gate barriers were activated, and security forces acted promptly to prevent the unauthorized entry of the vehicle. The person involved was apprehended by the Ministry of Defence police.
RAF Lakenheath is the largest US Air Force (USAF) base in the UK and houses the 48th Fighter Wing, known as the “Liberty Wing,” which operates F-15E Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning II aircraft.
